How to remove animal odor from carpet
In a house where there are animals, or even not one, but several, you can encounter a very pungent smell of these very tenants. Sometimes you go into the house, and the first thing you smell is not the scent of freshener or cake, but the smell of urine. To avoid this, you should regularly clean up after the animal, have a washing vacuum cleaner and sometimes dry-clean the carpet.
Pets are like small children. Defenseless, helpless and, unfortunately, cannot say in words what they want. Therefore, if you do not walk the dog in time or change the dirty litter box of the cat, you may find a small surprise on the floor or, even worse, on the carpet. Also, our smaller brothers like to lie on warm, cozy carpets, leaving their wool on them, and, accordingly, their smell.
How to remove urine odor from carpet
What if, after all, your pet wrote on the carpet?
First, blot the stain with any clean cloth or rag, but never rub it in. Then use one of the following methods:
- Soda + water. For half a liter, 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Sweat the stain, wipe off the excess with a napkin and leave to dry completely. Then go around with a vacuum cleaner
- Hydrogen peroxide + dish detergent. For half a glass of peroxide, 1 tablespoon of any detergent goes. Sprinkle the stain with baking soda, then sprinkle with a spray bottle and rub with a stiff brush. The perfect way to avoid yellow spots
- Vinegar + water. The proportion is 1: 1. Apply to the stain with a sponge. When dry, sprinkle with the same baking soda
Before using any of the above remedies, do a small test in an inconspicuous place near or on the back of the carpet. Of course, you shouldn't buy very expensive carpets for a house with animals. From constant cleaning, it will quickly lose its appearance and it will be expensive to buy a constantly new one. It is better, of course, to buy a carpet at a low price and with good quality.
Removing the old smell from the carpet
Our pets often play, sleep and just lie on the carpets. There they are warm, soft and comfortable. But along with this, wool, odor, and sometimes unnoticed urine stains remain on it. What to do in this case? After all, it is not always possible to take the carpet to the dry cleaner. There is an exit:
- Apply lather with laundry soap, rub, but do not rub. Then rinse thoroughly with clean water
- Citric acid copes well with the smell. Sprinkle it over the stains, collect it after a while and go around with a washing vacuum cleaner
- Dark products are well treated with a solution of potassium permanganate or iodine. But light carpets can be treated with chlorine-containing products. But in any case, do a little test before use.
- Tea brewing is also perfect for dark carpets. You just need to scatter it over the carpet, and then just sweep it away with a broom. Repeat if necessary until odor disappears. In addition, the tea leaves clean the pile well.
Be sure to regularly clean the carpet from animal hair. Especially during the moulting period or if the animal has a long coat with a lot of fluff. Wool is best collected by hand or with a stiff brush. Then you can go around with a vacuum cleaner. And at least once a week, wash with special shampoos that can be bought at any pet store.
Also, when choosing a method for cleaning the carpet, it is worth considering the type of pile and the level of coloration. But it is still better not to allow such moments. After all, you too have unnecessary worries and animal experiences.
