Why folds and folds appear on carpets, how to avoid them

Basically, the shape of the carpet changes with improper or long-term storage when rolled up, constant rubbing or displacement during use.

1. The  product lies in a walk-through place, people stumble over its corner. It will become uplifted over time

2. The  carpet has been rolled up for a long time, and the edge that was inside the roll does not flatten out on the plane of the floor

3.  When storing or transporting, instead of a roll, they decided to fold the carpet like a sheet of paper - in half, in half, etc.

4.  A thin carpet lies on a slippery floor, and part of it is constantly shifting, forming sharp folds over time

How to fix carpet deformations

There are several ways. The choice depends on the size, thickness and material of the carpet. Can you leave him alone for a few hours. You want to fix the center, edge or corner. You will always have time  to buy a carpet if our advice does not help.

But if it's a pity to part with the old, try the following:

  • Thin and soft enough to slightly moisten, carefully spread and press with a flat weight slightly larger than the area of the problem. If wetting does not help, use a steamer.

  • Thick and heavy - moisten and just leave flat on the floor for a few hours, it will sink and flatten under its own weight.

  • To flatten the inner edge after being rolled up for a long time, roll the carpet backwards, wait and try again to spread it on the floor. In this case, synthetic fiber carpets can be slightly dampened. But this option is not suitable for glue-based products.

  • Bent corners can be glued to the floor with double-sided tape (however, it is short-lived). Or use special rubber pads that are attached to the carpet, and adjoin the floor due to friction.

How to get rid of pile creases on carpet

Creases arise from prolonged pressure of heavy objects or regular mechanical stress - furniture legs, constant friction with the legs when sitting or walking.

1.  Moisten the damaged area and work thoroughly with a tablespoon or fork, try to make the movement smoothly, straightening layer by layer

2.  Use a steamer if the carpet material can withstand high temperatures and use one of the cutlery

3.  Pieces of ice can be put in the traces of the furniture legs. In this case, the wetting of the fibers is slower and more uniform, it will take more time, but the effect is better. Since the pile will be crumpled in such places very much, the procedure will most likely have to be repeated.

As you can see, the lifespan of carpets can be extended by monitoring their condition and applying our tips. Do not rush to throw away your favorite carpet if you rearrange the furniture and you can see footprints on it. Do not despair, the raised corner can be returned to its former plane, and it will become safe for household members. And if a new purchase disappointed only with a slight deformation, do not rush to return it. Good luck!
